Thanksgiving 2010!

So in case you don't remember, Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday of all time. I love it.

I made a cranberry-caramel upside-down cake.

The whole idea behind Thanksgiving is simply being thankful for what you already have. You're not begging/hoping/praying your parents will buy you a new iPhone. You're not freaking out about what to buy your sister because you've bought her grippy "alligator" socks every year since you were 4 years old.

Everyone comes together just to be together.

This is especially awesome for me because my family was actually all together (well, sans my brother-in-law, which totally sucks because I thought of an amazing pie to make this year and he totally would have loved it).

I freaking love cranberries!
About six weeks ago I didn't even think I'd be coming home for Thanksgiving and then I turn up baking tons of pies. I love having an excuse to make pies.

We had Thanksgiving at my brothers' house in the Dallas area.

I even modified it to make it all non-dairy.

Unfortunately, it took six hours to get from Austin to Lake Dallas. I can usually make that trip in four hours. We literally were going somewhere between 0 and 30 mph for a good hour and a half. All because a stupid 18-wheeler broke down in the middle of the highway.

I can't even count the number of times I called people some seriously bad names. They all deserved it though, I promise.
It's not exactly pretty, but it's super tasty.
But it went off without a hitch. We had yummy food that my sister-in-law cooked. I managed to make all but one of our desserts non-dairy so my sister could still eat them despite her new (annoying) dairy allergy.

I'm thankful for all the opportunities in my life, especially the ones where I get to get my family altogether for some food and fun.

  2. Thanks guys! Casey, I thought I had written in there that I got the recipe from Smitten Kitchen, I must've accidentally deleted it, but yes I did. I just modified the recipe so that my sister could actually eat it. :)
